Rising to the challenge

RailTrackLoadingAV Dawson has recently completed the load out of some of the longest steel rail lines to be transported out of the River Tees.
Each rail line was a total length of 60 meters with the full 468 rails weighing a total of 1,600 tonnes. AV Dawson managed the complete transportation process using our in house locomotives to shunt the rails from the mainline across our rail sidings onto our rail linked quayside.
Before the rails could be transported from the manufacturing site at Scunthorpe a series of trials took place over a one month period to ensure the radius of the quayside entrance could support the length without causing any damage to the rails.
Once on the quay we utilised a 14 man team and our two Gottwald Harbour Cranes in tandem to lift the rails on board the vessel which will make its way to Sweden to the end client.
