A V Dawson Ltd's renowned strength in the field of rail freight is founded on the excellence of the facilities at the Ayrton International Railhead and Store. The 6-hectare site, formerly British Steel's Ayrton Rolling Mill, was purchased in 1986 and through a process of continuous investment has been transformed into one of Europe's premier Railhead and distribution hubs.
Facilities on site include:
- A dry bulk rail receiving facility, conveyor-linked to several warehouses within a 20,000 sqm.
- warehouse complex A 21m long, 100 tonne Road/Rail Weighbridge
- Overhead Cranage and Fork Lift Trucks up to 40 tonnes
- Rail links in steel product storage areas for convenience and efficiency
- Temperature and humidity controlled and monitored storage conditions

Customers moving freight over greater distances benefit from this environmentally conscious and cost effective alternative Railhead Logistics transport mode. Often linked with "final mile" Just-In-Time delivery services provided by our own road transport fleet, a truly multimodal distribution service.
We have experience of handling a wide range of rail-borne cargoes and have our own fleet of shunting locomotives & railhead. This gives us the flexibility to adapt quickly to customer needs and provide the speed of response that is one of the hallmarks of our service.
